A Great (Wall) Story

I had heard the David statue in Florence was impressive. Not until I stood it its hall, looked up at its carved veins, curled hair and chiseled muscles, and blinked at the light coming from the ceiling could I ever have known what that meant. The Great Wall's vastness is just as unexplained.

So instead of explaining it, I'll simply tell you it was indeed Great--we walked and climbed and it dipped and dived and took our breath away. The wall crumbles with age and so do the tourist predators staged along it. At the end of our four-hour hike we crossed a shaky suspension bridge to take a zip line across a wide river, and then a boat back to reality.
